Was it a socially buzzing evening?
Were we treated to an excellent buffet, plentifully enhanced with French wines?
Were we entertained in a warm and comfortable setting?
Was it a really well illustrated talk and presentation delivered by a professional and bi-lingual speaker?
Over 44 guests thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the above, organised most ably, by the Shelford Twinning Association… and all this for only £6 a head!
On our arrival at Great Shelford Free Church Hall, we were welcomed by members of the committee and the colourful sight of tables laid with a variety of nibbles – cheeses, pâtés, bread and Crudités – which could well have graced the table of our French counterparts!
As the evening progressed, our hosts replenished any ‘gaps’ with various French-style platters – delicious caramelised onion quiche and charcuterie.
Catherine Pinchetti, teacher, author and speaker took us on a lively and informative tour of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, pointing out aspects of the widely differing areas: landscapes, towns and villages, cultures and history. For your information, her books The Spirit of Languedoc Roussillon and The Spirit of Auvergne are available in local bookshops.
Altogether, we felt we were being taken to some of these places ourselves, and our appetites were certainly whetted for any visit we might make in the future.
