Exchange visit to Verneuil 2017

We still have a few places left for those who want to participate in this year’s Twinning trip to Verneuil-en-Halatte (1st / 4th April 2017)!

We are very excited by the potential of the visit this year. In the last twelve months, Verneuil Twinning Association have welcomed new members onto their committee. These younger people have taken on more responsibility for the organisation of our visit to Verneuil this year. The visit to Parc de Samara (Amiens) looks quite exciting.
The group travelling to Verneuil will be a mix of adults and children. Those who have participated in previous years have benefited from the formation of lasting friendships.
The outline programme is as follows:
Saturday 1st April
09h00    Depart Shelford via executive coach (MilKen Travel); Dover/Calais ferry crossing
17h00    Arrive Verneuil-en-Halatte
19h00    Evening fête in Verneuil
Sunday 2nd April
Day spent with the host family.
Generally speaking, a number of families usually join together to ‘entertain’ their guests. Whatever level of French one can/cannot speak, the host families are extremely welcoming and do their utmost to make sure that everyone has a most enjoyable time.
Monday 3rd April
08h30 Depart for Parc de Samara (Amiens)
Samara is a leisure park dedicated to Prehistory. The reconstructions of prehistoric environments, the arboretum, the botanical garden, the marsh, as well as the different craft demonstrations offered, such as basketwork, pottery, mosaic, stonework and woodwork, will delight the whole family.
Tuesday 4th April
08h30 Children spend the morning at Jules Ferry Primary School
08h30 Adults visit Senlis
Senlis has a long and rich heritage, having traversed centuries of history. This medieval town has welcomed some of the most renowned figures in French history, including Hugh CapetLouis IX, the Marshal of France, Anne of Kiev and Séraphine de Senlis. The monarchs of the early French dynasties lived here, attracted by the proximity of the Chantilly forest. It is renowned for the gothic Senlis Cathedral and its vast historical monuments.
13h00 Lunch
14h00 Departure of the English group
21h30 Arrive back in Shelford
The cost per participant will be £95 which includes travel to/from Verneuil and all travel incurred in visiting places of interest as well as insurance. In Verneuil, we will be guests in homes, and this accounts for the very reasonable price. All the entertainment and activities are provided as hospitality by the two Twinning Associations and host families. All traveling adults are expected to become members of the Twinning Association (£7 single membership / £12 for families) if they are not members already. The only other expenses would be a small gift for the host family and a little pocket money.
If you have any concerns about the cost for your child, the Twinning Association may be able to provide assistance in cases of need (contact Sarah or Colin if you need such assistance).
Whilst ‘Twinning’ relies on exchanged hospitality, it is not obligatory to host people from Verneuil in July, but we would encourage you to consider hosting adults/children on their visit to our region. Many long-term relationships have been built up through ‘hospitality exchanges’.
